Thoughts on Regathering *May 22 Update

This week Governor Baker announced his plan to reopen the state of Massachusetts. We were surprised and grateful to hear the priority placed on churches that we would be included in Phase 1 of reopening the state. We are so appreciative of this consideration, however, we do not need to reopen because the Church never closed!  The church has never been confined to a building, rather we are God’s people scattered as salt and light throughout the world. True, we have not been meeting in person, but we have increased our ministry to Boston and beyond. These have been extraordinary days, and we are so proud of the generosity, care, and engagement that continues to happen week after week.

We do want to give you an update in light of the Governor’s announcement. Your pastors have been seeking God’s wisdom together and have decided that we do not feel it is appropriate for us to “regather” in person during Phase 1. We are continuing to pray, while listening to various government leaders, and receiving the counsel of our advisory team. For the time being we are continuing to gather online for Sundays, groups, and prayer through Phase 1 (which could end as early as June 8). We are in the final processes of creating a phased approach to regathering which will give us some sense of direction over the next few months.

Thank you for your patience, participation, and prayer as we listen for God’s voice. You are invited to a virtual Family Meeting through Zoom on June 1 at 8pm where we plan to share updates on what God has been doing in this season along with details on our approach to regathering. Obviously dates and locations will be written in pencil since our regular meeting location is a Boston Public School and is not currently available to rent either indoor or outdoor space. We are actively looking for space where we can incrementally and safely regather as appropriate. Please pray with us to that end and help us gather information by filling out a congregational survey that will be sent out next week. In the meantime, we invite you to continue to join us for Sundays, groups, and prayer online - bringing along a friend or family member. We all know countless people who could use a church family in times like these. Let’s keep pressing on with our mission of Connecting Boston & Beyond to Christ!

Things are beginning to move forward and greater days are ahead!

With you,
